SaaS telemetry platforms charge astronomical markups on uncompressed log ingestion and retention. If your Python services emit 50GB of raw JSON logs monthly, you are likely paying upwards of $300/month just for basic indexing and alert triggers.
The Architecture: Zero-Dependency Ingest Pipe
LogShield CLI flips the model by handling PII redaction and compression at the edge. Written in Go as a static, zero-dependency binary, it sits directly between your app's standard streams and cloud storage. It strips credit cards, bearer tokens, and emails using regex pattern engines before writing zstd-compressed chunks to S3 or Cloudflare R2 for pennies.
Routing Python Structured Logs
You don't need heavy third-party SDKs or background daemons inside your application container. Emit standard structured JSON to stdout, and pipe the stream directly into LogShield CLI.
import logging
import json
import sys
class StructuredJsonFormatter(logging.Formatter):
def format(self, record: logging.LogRecord) -> str:
log_obj = {
"timestamp": self.formatTime(record),
"level": record.levelname,
"logger": record.name,
"message": record.getMessage(),
}
if record.exc_info:
log_obj["exception"] = self.formatException(record.exc_info)
return json.dumps(log_obj)
# Configure root logger to stdout
handler = logging.StreamHandler(sys.stdout)
handler.setFormatter(StructuredJsonFormatter())
logger = logging.getLogger("app")
logger.addHandler(handler)
logger.setLevel(logging.INFO)
# Execution command:
# python app.py | logshield --bucket my-telemetry-bucket --slack-webhook $SLACK_URLReal-Time Webhook Alerting on 5xx Panics
In addition to streaming archives to object storage, LogShield parses status codes and stack traces in memory. When a 500 error or uncaught panic passes through the pipe, LogShield fires an instant, formatted alert payload to your Slack or Discord webhook without blocking application runtime.
Deploying in Production
LogShield includes ready-to-run systemd service overrides and Docker sidecar compose files. You can drop the static binary into any minimal Alpine or Debian container and run your workloads with zero additional RAM overhead.
