DiskSweep
Local storage quickly fills up with bloated build artifacts, stale caches, and redundant file duplicates that degrade performance and drive up backup costs. DiskSweep audits target directories to identify reclaimable space and calculate potential cloud storage cost savings. ## Key features - **Dev artifact and temp cleaning**: Identifies common build directories (`node_modules`, `__pycache__`, `.venv`, `target`) and temporary file extensions (`.tmp`, `.log`, `.cache`). - **Two-stage duplicate detection**: Uses fast MD5 edge-sampling followed by full SHA-256 hashing on identical-sized files to flag redundant copies. - **Economic ROI modeling**: Estimates monthly and annual cloud storage cost savings based on a configurable cost per gigabyte. - **Flexible target filtering**: Scans based on minimum byte size, modification age in days, and system junk patterns (`.ds_store`, `thumbs.db`). ## Example ```bash python disksweep.py --help python disksweep.py . --clean-dev --clean-temp --cost-per-gb-month 0.20 python disksweep.py /var/data --find-duplicates --min-size 104857600 --older-than 30 --no-color ``` ## Limitations The tool does not automate cloud bucket synchronization or handle remote object stores, operating strictly on local filesystem paths.
Quick Start
Runs on Python 3.9 or newer. It needs these packages: send2trash. Install them first with pip install -r requirements.txt.
1 — Install the dependencies
pip install -r requirements.txt2 — Run it
python disksweep.py --helpHow agents & programs use it: Install its requirements in a virtual environment; scripts and AI agents can then run it as a subprocess.
