More details
Developers managing containerized workloads frequently struggle to detect when upstream container images receive critical security patches or new digest releases. Manually verifying every tag against remote registries is tedious, leaving running production containers and static compose definitions out of sync without timely operational visibility. The tool communicates directly with the Docker daemon through a local UNIX socket to inspect active containers and parses service definitions from compose files. It queries OCI and Docker Registry v2 APIs over HTTPS using bearer token authentication to identify newer remote digests. An internal semantic version parser evaluates major, minor, patch, and prerelease differences between tags. When newer artifacts appear, alerts are sent immediately to HTTP webhook endpoints or via standard SMTP email. Example: Run python3 imagenudge_container_update_no.py --help to review all available CLI options. Execute python3 imagenudge_container_update_no.py --self-test to validate tag comparison logic offline. Run python3 imagenudge_container_update_no.py to inspect local containers and verify upstream registry digests. This tool does not automatically pull new images, restart running containers, or edit compose files on disk.
